Date of Service: Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Josh Alderman officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1-2 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Timbers Drive Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, 1461 Timbers Dr., Dothan, AL 36301.

Charles Wayne Johnson, a resident of Dothan AL, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at his residence. He was 88 years old.


Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Josh Alderman officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1-2 pm. Charles was born on August 18, 1934 in Port Arthur, TX to the late Harold and Ocie Lea Johnson. He graduated from high school and attended University of Texas before he was drafted into the US Army and served for two years. Following his tour of duty, he was employed with Automatic Electric Company and later with GTE as a District Manager in Greenville, Alabama. Charles moved to Dothan in 1976 and was Supervisor of materials and supplies until he retired in 1991. Later he worked with Lowe’s as a Department Manager in appliances, and with Pruitt Communications installing telephone equipment. He enjoyed playing golf at Roundabout Golf Course with one of his best buddies, Jim Oates. He loved woodworking, making roll top desks, grandfather clocks, and cabinets for his family and friends. He also made stained glass windows for Asbury United Methodist Church in Monroe County. Charles was a member of Timbers Drive Freewill Baptist Church.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Peggy Mixon Johnson.


Survivors include his son, Chris (Michelle) Johnson; his daughter, Lea Ann (Randy) Rogers; his grandchildren, Kyle Johnson and Ryan Wallace; his nieces and nephews, Michelle (Jeff) Hayles, Michael (Carol) Johnson, and Diane (Jerry) Robbins; and several great nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Kyle Johnson, Randy Rogers, Jeff Hayles, and Jonathan Blanton.
