Chauncey Richard Matkin, 80, a resident of Cowarts passed away Monday, December 26, 2023, at his residence following a brief illness.

Chauncey was born September 21, 1943, to the late John & Gertrude (Jackson) Matkin. He spent the early years of his life in Blakely, Georgia, and attended Early County High School, following school, he served four years in the U.S. Navy. Chauncey worked in the Nuclear Industry traveling all over the country. After many years of traveling, he returned home and began a career as a Land Surveyor up until his retirement.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward Matkin, and Billy Matkin; two sisters, Rhoda Mullins, and Lillianne Matkin.

He is survived by his two daughters, Kim Newton, and Paige Chavis (Jerry); a son, Jason Matkin; six grandchildren, Tony Salmon, Christopher Barber (Sara), Victoria Brown-McCarter (Lawrence), Courtney Smith (Curtis), Caitlin Brannon (Matthew), and Colton Cherry; four great-grandchildren, Adalynn Toole, Aniyah Rivers, Makenna Smith, and Elijah Barber; and his wife, Teresa Pipkin Matkin.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
