CHONG “MARY” DEAL


HEADLAND.…Chong “Mary” Deal a resident of Headland, Alabama, formerly of Ozark, Alabama passed away early Saturday evening, March 13, 2021, at home. She was 81.


            Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 16,2021 at Woodlawn Memory Gardens in Ozark, Alabama, with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday evening at the Wright Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel.


            Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the Southeast Health Foundation; 1806 Fairview Avenue  Dothan, Alabama 36301, www.sehealthfoundation.org.


            Mrs. Deal was born in Chungpuk-do, South Korea, to the late Soon Bok Choi and Chung Yae Lee Choi. She lived her childhood years in South Korea before moving to the states when she was 23, after marrying her late husband (CW3, (US Army) pilot Riley D. Wicker, whom died in a helicopter accident near Ft. Benning, GA. She has lived in the Ozark, AL area all of her adult life before moving to the Headland, AL over 2 years ago. She was a seamstress and worked different places, but was mainly a stay at home mother. She was intrigued and loved to build bird houses, so much she was featured in a story of Wiregrass Living. She attended the First Baptist Church – Headland.


            Along with her parents and late husband, she was also preceded in death by her 2nd husband, Durwood “Bill” Deal; and her daughter, Patricia (Pat) Wicker Hopkins.


            Leaving to cherish her memories are her daughters, Dr. Brenda Wicker Badura (Paul) of Johns Creek, GA, Victoria “Tori” Deal Clements (Ashley) of Headland, AL; her son Riley Wicker (Amy) of Echo, AL; her son-in-law, Will Hopkins of Dothan; her grandchildren, Stephanie Blocker Perez, Mary Blocker Perales, SSG, (US Army) Daniel Blocker, Danny Peters, Sharon Peters, Hayden Wicker, Madison Wicker, Erica Clements Helms, Katlin Clements, Bryson Sowell, and Trent Clements; and five great-grandchildren.
