Stanley Nowell was a native of the Beulah Community of Houston County, son of the late Cliff Foy “Jack” Nowell and Martha Lucille Farmer Nowell. He moved to Webb in 1953. Stanley was a 1964 graduate of the Houston County High School in Columbia and served his country in the Alabama Air National Guard in the Dothan unit. He was engaged in farming most of his adult lifetime. Stanley was an active member of the Webb Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He served on the Board of Directors of the Headland Peanut Co-op. Stanley was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Wallace Nowell and George Farmer Nowell.

The following was written by his loving wife, Charlotte. “I was with Stanley at the end of his life on earth. In the thirty-two years we shared as husband and wife, he loved me and I loved him unconditionally. Stanley accepted my daughter, Selina as his own from day one and loved her as his own. When she and Greg got married, Stanley accepted Greg as his son…then when they were blessed with Savanna and Seth this same love was carried over to them.

Stanley taught me more about the Bible than anyone…He was great with discernment of the Word. He comforted me, encouraged me and always supported me in anything I wanted to do. He taught me how to really love and how to live one day at a time and how to accept others for who they are. Stanley was a Christian of high morals, he loved God on earth with all his being and this was evident by his service to God. He taught Sunday School over thirty-eight years, served as a Deacon, was on the Stewardship Committee and any other role when needed.

Stanley always took pride in his work and would go the extra mile to get it right. He always said, he did not have time to redo something so he had to do it right the first time. Stanley’s passing comes with much sorrow and grief for me, Selina, Greg, Savanna,  Seth, and members of his chosen family. He was a man who represented God each and every day…he was always eager and willing to talk about JESUS, and was a witness even in the last moments of his life. Stanley’s life blessed others in this room as well. The days and years ahead will never be the same without him but we will move forward remembering the love he shared with us.

Stanley entered Heaven and met his Savior face to face!!! What a glorious reunion with Jesus and all of his family and friends who have gone before him. I will meet you there in a little while MY LOVE!!!!”

Surviving relatives include his wife, Charlotte Brown Nowell, a daughter, Selina Thornton (Greg), Dothan; two grandchildren, Savanna Thornton and Seth Thornton; sisters-in-law, Katie Brown (Billy), Huntsville, AL; and Mable Henderson, Ashford. Chosen family members, Jerry Hughes and his wife, Fariba, and their two children, Danielle and Victoria Hughes of Prattville, Jeff and Cristal Arnold and their daughter, Madison of Cowarts. A special friend and chosen family member, Bethany Simon of Dothan; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, George “Andy” Nowell.

Serving as active pallbearers will be  Dr. Perry Mobley, Jay Jones, Jamar Ivey, Ronald Devane, Jimmy Nall and Chad Taylor.
