HEADLAND. . .Corene Chancey Kirkland, a resident of the Blackwood Community, near Headland, died late Wednesday night, October 25, 2023, in Extendicare Health Center, Dothan. She was 92.

            Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday, October 27, 2023, in the Concord Baptist Church with Pastor Scott Wyatt and Reverend Danny Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 P.M. Friday in the church sanctuary.

            Mrs. Kirkland was born and reared in the Old Center community of Henry County, daughter of the late Coy Thomas Chancey and Irene Aman Chancey. She lived in the Blackwood Community since 1952. Mrs. Kirkland was retired as a Medical Transcriptionist from Southeast Alabama Medical Center. In earlier years, she was employed by Southern Clinic.  She was a member of Concord Baptist Church. Mrs. Kirkland was preceded in death by her husband, James Theldon Kirkland, sisters, Janie Posey, Ruth Hubbard and Marie Williams, brothers, Otho Chancey and Ozro Chancey and a grandson, Corey Waters.

            Surviving relatives include three daughters, Thelda Hicks (Roger), Headland; Susan Scott (Marty), Pensacola, FL; and Katrina Mercer (Donnie), Spotsylvania, VA; grandchildren, Leslie Eldridge (Rob), April Simmons (Mark), Rachel Mullins (Dr. Chance Mullins), Aimee Starling (Michael), Phillip Kirkland (Michelle), Victoria Lamberth (Dre), Quinton Waters (Courtney), and Caitlin Mercer; numerous great-grandchildren; a niece and two nephews.

            Serving as active pallbearers will be Dre Lamberth, Michael Starling, Phillip Kirkland, Christian Eldridge, Rob Eldridge, Mark Simmons and Chance Mullins.
