CW4 (Ret.) Foster Oates, Jr., age 78, of Enterprise, Alabama, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Medical Center Enterprise.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 5, 2022, at First United Methodist Church in Enterprise. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time. Burial will follow at 1:15 PM on Monday, August 8, 2022 at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.

Foster was a trailblazer, Pioneer, and a legend in the field of Army Aviation and Military services. He was also an extraordinary youth leader and supported other Christian services at his church as well as in the community. He was respected and loved by numerous superiors, colleagues, co-workers, and friends. He was a Father-figure to countless people who attended the youth program at First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Oates was preceded in death by his parents, Foster and Jewel Oates; sister, Angeline Oates; and brother, John Oates.

Survivors include the love of his life, Tricia Oates, Enterprise, AL; daughter, Melinda Cannon (Carl), Dunlap, IL; sons, Brian Oates, Enterprise, AL; Shane Oates (Constance), Enterprise, AL; sisters, Paulette Campbell, Fulton, NY; Alice Bell, Syracuse, NY; brothers, Beuren Oates (Louise), Syracuse, NY; William Oates (Judy), Virginia Beach, VA; Steven Oates, CA; granddaughters, Summer Wright (Melton) and Danielle Cannon; grandsons, Braxton Salinas, Brock Kelley, Brayden Bones; great granddaughters, Melanie Wright, Ava Wright, Laila Randle; great grandson, Logan Cannon; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clifford and Elaine Hunt; numerous extended family.
