David Lee Barfield

A celebration of David’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Covenant Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the services.

David Lee Barfield, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2024, in his hometown of Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 65. David left a legacy of laughter, kindness, and an indomitable spirit that will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Born on June 25, 1958, in Dothan, Alabama, David was the beloved son of Evelyn Barfield and the late Curtis Lee Barfield, Jr. He grew up surrounded by the love and support of his family, including his brother Billy Barfield, and later attended Dothan High School, graduating with the class of 1976. David's passion for practical skills led him to pursue a technical degree from Wallace Community College, where he honed his expertise in HVAC systems.

David's professional life was marked by dedication and hard work. He spent 33 years with Sony, where he was not only a valued employee but also a friend to many. His commitment to his craft continued when he joined the team at Covenant Methodist Church, working in maintenance from 2011 until 2016. David's hands were rarely still, as he was always fixing or improving something, much to the benefit of those around him.

David's personal life was filled with joy and laughter, thanks to his role as a family man and a jokester. He shared 27 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Sherry Barfield, and was a loving father to his son, Michael Barfield, and daughters, Crystal Bean (Chris) and Lauren Shepherd (Nick). David was also a doting grandfather to Addison, Emily, and Payton, whose lives were enriched by his playful spirit and loving presence. Also left to honor David's memory are his brother, Billy Barfield; his daughter-in-law, Suzanne; his nephew, Clay (Laura); and his mother, Evelyn. David was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Lee Barfield, Jr.; nephew, Matt Barfield; sister-in-law, Melanie Barfield; stepfather, John Davis Jr.; best friend, Dempsey Parker; and his parents-in-law, Richard and Ruth Priebe.

David's home was also filled with the joyful chaos of his beloved dogs, Dexter and Maya, and his granddogs, Frankie, Jasper, Luke, Meena, and Bella, who were his constant companions and a source of endless entertainment.

An avid fisherman, David found serenity and delight in the quiet waters of Lake Eufaula, where he could often be found casting a line and enjoying nature's splendor. His love for his family was paramount, and he cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was sharing stories, laughter, or his latest catch.

Described by those who knew him as handy, funny, and kind, David's legacy is one of simple pleasures, a life well-lived, and a heart full of generosity. He could fix anything, often with a smile and a joke, and his absence will leave a void in the many lives he touched.

As we say goodbye to David Lee Barfield, we celebrate the life of a man who embodied the best of us. His memory will live on through the stories told, the laughter shared, and the profound impact he had on his family and friends. David's life was a testament to the power of kindness, humor, and the enduring strength of family bonds. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew him.
