HEADLAND. . .Deborah Alverson “Dee” Spikes, a resident of Headland, died Monday morning, January 22, 2024, in a Dothan hospital. She was 70.


            Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 27, 2024, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Benny Cole and Chaplain Charles Goldsmith officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the mortuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3053 McGehee Road, Montgomery, AL 36111 or C.H.A.R.M (City of Headland Animal Rescue Mission), P.O. Box 216, Headland, AL 36345.


            Dee was born May 12, 1953 in Midland City, Alabama to her parents, Leonard and Betty Marshall Alverson. Growing as an “Army Brat”, she lived in many locations to include Alabama, Georgia, Austria, Japan and Maryland. Dee was previously employed by Holland Machine Shop and the Alabama Unemployment Office until she became medically disabled. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Donnie Spikes, sisters, Deloris Alverson and Becky Fontenot and her brothers-in-law, Steve Fontenot and Glen Wilkerson.


            Surviving relatives include her son, Dylan Wilson, Headland; a sister, Teresa Dehne (Steve), Ashford; her beloved grandchildren that she absolutely adored, Christian Wilson and Madeline Jones and their mom, Olivia Dufrense of Dothan; a sister-in-law, Terri Wilkerson; nieces, Jennifer Baker (Neil), Jenna Enfinger (Justin), Taylor Ayala (Jose) and Brittney Wilkerson(Devon), and nephews, Jason Fontenot (Jessica) and Tony Wilkerson(Sheri), her canine companion and all around good boy, Merlin.


            Special thanks to her Aunts, Nina Beadore, and Joyce Douglas (Ken), for taking her to cancer treatments, loyal friend, Joyce Simmons and family, Terri Wilkerson and Patti Ryan for all of their assistance through the years. A special thank you to the staff of Gentiva Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Dee during her illness.
