Mrs.Delatha Wynell Rayburn Christian, 86, of Brantley, Alabama passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Luverne Health & Rehab Center in Luverne, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Fannie Bryan Rayburn. Mrs. Christian was born and reared in Crenshaw County. She graduated from Elba High School and attended Birmingham Business College. She married H.D. Christian of Senecaville, Ohio, who was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. Following the death of her husband, she returned to Crenshaw County and reared her four young children.


Mema, as she was fondly called, was a strong, giving, loving, and hard-working sweet woman with the perfect touch, the right answer, and a shoulder to lean on during any circumstances brought on by life itself. Her career as a florist and upholster touched many lives. She will be sorely missed by family and friends. She was a member of Weed Baptist Church.


Mrs. Christian is survived by three children; Ricky (Gloria) Christian of Geneva, Cathy Ward of Brantley, and Billy Christian of Brantley. She also leaves behind a Daughter-in-law - Debbie Christian of Brantley, along with grandchildren: Noel Christian, Wetumpka; Paul Christian, Brantley; Daina Manley, Sandwich, Massachusetts; Emily Sullivan, Geneva; Kimberly Ward, Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and Kristy Rinker, Montgomery. She is also survived by numerous great grandchildren and one sister, Merlene Carlisle, and a brother, Max Rayburn, both of Brantley.


She was preceded in death by her husband, H.D. Christian, a daughter Vickie Christian, a son Frankie Christian, and a great granddaughter Civanna Christian.


Services for Mrs. Christian will be held Sunday, December 23, at Hayes Funeral Home Chapel in Elba at 2 o’clock. Visitation will be held from 1 o’clock until 2 o’clock. Interment will be at Pine Level community cemetery under the direction of Hayes funeral Home.
