Obituary: Dennis P. Hansen, CW4 (Ret)


 


Dennis P. Hansen, CW4 (Ret) born December 2, 1942, died peacefully surrounded by his family on March 12, 2023. He was born in Burlington Iowa, where he grew up on the Mississippi River. He was a member of the class of 1960 at Burlington High School. At the time of his passing, he lived in Hartford Al.


Dennis was an extraordinary man. At the age of 13 he started his own business of catching and selling catfish from the Mississippi River. The proceeds of this business went to get his pilot’s license at the age of 14 before his driver’s license. This began his love of flying. He served in the Air Force from 1960 to 1964, then transferred to the Army where he worked in communication. In 1966 he left the Army to work for Boeing since his first love was flying. He Later became an FAA Air Traffic Controller in Alaska. In 1978 he rejoined the Army, where he began his career as a helicopter pilot and later became instructor. In 1979 he won the Orville Wright Achievement Award, which is an award across all branches of service. In 1993 he retired from the military after a combined total of 22 years in the two branches of service. After leaving the military he became a Micro-computer Technology instructor at Southeastern Community College in Whiteville NC, where he received the T. Elbert Clemons Outstanding Faculty award in 1998. He retired from the college in 2007.


He is proceeded in death by his Mother Marjorie Osborne, His father Kenneth Osborne, Sister Mary Ann Hansen, Brother Lynford Osborne.


He is survived by his wife Jean Ann Hansen of Hartford. His children; Douglas Hansen (Nelli) of Germany, Denise Williamson (Hans Walden) of Coffee Springs, and DenEric Hansen (Cindy) of Hartford; brothers David Osborne, and Christopher Osborne both of Burlington Iowa.


Grandchildren: Stephen Williamson, David Williamson (Rachel), Erica Hansen, Jacob Hansen, Victoria Hansen, Thomas Hansen, and Christy Rogers.


He had five great grandchildren, one aunt, several cousins and nieces and many friends across the world.
