Mr. Huey Donald “Don” Driskell, a resident of Wicksburg, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Flowers Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was 89.


Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Piney Grove Assembly of God Church (266 Co. Rd. 9, Newton, Alabama) with Pastor Billy Fortune officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at the church prior to service time.

Mr. Driskell was born August 23, 1933 in Houston County to Huey Alonzo and Agnes Myerl Scott Driskell and was a lifelong resident of the Wicksburg Community. Following graduation from Wicksburg High he served his country in the U.S. Navy for six years. He was employed as a procurement officer at Ft. Rucker for over 27 years prior to his retirement.


Don could often be found outdoors. Hunting and fishing were two of his favorite leisure activities. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and never missed watching a game. He was a dedicated member of Piney Grove Assembly of God Church and will be remembered for his quiet and gentle spirit.


He is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Sonja Rae DeLancey Driskell, a brother, D.O. Driskell and a great-granddaughter, Lila Kate Carpenter.


He is survived by a son, LaDon Driskell (Linda) of Wicksburg; two daughters, Geralyn Sue Driskell McSween (Ronnie) of Newton, and Rhonda Lynn Driskell Carpenter (Terry) of Wicksburg; two brothers, Gharrett Driskell (Joyce) of Dothan and Mark Driskell of Daleville; a sister, Gennie Weiss of Wicksburg; eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.


Active pallbearers will be: Chad Driskell, Christopher Gilley, Hunter Bond, Tate Fowler, Dustin Carpenter, Preston Hammon and Anthony Carpenter.


Honorary pallbearers will be Corey Bond, Ronnie McSween, Larry Shoupe and Donnie Driskell.
