Donald “Don” Irvin Friend, Jr., a resident of Dothan, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at his residence. He was 71.


In accordance with Don’s final wishes, he will be buried at sea.


Don was born on August 20, 1950 in Hastings, Nebraska to Donald and Anne Friend. He graduated from Hastings High School and would join the US Navy and proudly serve for 23 years. Don graduated with a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Syracuse University. After serving in the military, he worked as a Civilian Auditor for the Department of the Army in Washington, DC. He and his wife, Karen moved to Dothan 8 years ago. When Don and Karen were not traveling, he enjoyed golf and woodworking. He was truly a kind, warm hearted man who will be missed by all who knew him.


Don was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew Friend.


Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Karen Doyle Friend; his son, Sean Michael (Jeanine) Friend; and his sisters, Dorothy Allen, Rebecca Friend, and Stephanie Friend.
