Date of Service: Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, February 27, 2020 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve White officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12-2 pm. At other times the family will receive family and friends at his mother’s home, 110 Geranium Drive.

Donald Gene “Donnie” Hughes, Sr., a resident of Taylor, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at his residence. He was 59.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, February 27, 2020 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve White officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12-2 pm. At other times the family will receive family and friends at his mother’s home, 110 Geranium Drive.
Mr. Hughes was born on January 25, 1961 in Philadelphia, PA and has lived in Dothan most of his life. He was a graduate of Enterprise High School. Mr. Hughes was an avid fisherman, loving to fish in Lake Eufaula and the river. He loved drag racing his 1968 SS Chevrolet and riding his weekend ride, a 50th Anniversary Edition Harley Davidson motorcycle. Mr. Hughes loved his family especially his grandchildren, he enjoyed Christmas and Thanksgiving because it meant more time with them. He was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Taylor Lodge #59.
Survivors include his son, Donald (Jessica) Hughes, Jr.; his grandchildren, Donald Hughes, III and Hannah Hughes; his mother, Mary (Charles) Skipper and his father, Jack (Martha) Hughes; his brothers, David (Lottie) Hughes, Billy Hughes, Richard (Sherri) Hughes, and David (Kathy) Mims; his sister, Jackie (Matt) Whitehead; and several nieces and nephews.
