Donnie Mae Simmons Ellenburg of Geneva, Alabama passed away Thursday, November 19,2020 at the age of 87.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 22, 2020 at the Piney Grove Baptist Church Samson, Alabama with the Rev. Jack Chancey, Rev, Charles Doty and Rev. Ronnie Baine  officiating with burial following in the Church cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing.  She will lie in state beginning at 1:00 p.m. until funeral time.

Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva.

Donnie Mae was born October 24, 1933 in Coffee Spring, Alabama to the late Harvey D and Thelma Wise Strickland.  She retired from Wiregrass Medical Center after 44 years of service, where she was a passionate nurse who cared for her patients, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.  She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where she loved to sing in the choir.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband; W.J. Simmons, sons; John D Simmons and Terry Lee Simmons; brothers; Lavoie Strickland and Leroy Strickland; sisters; Ollie Faye Chandler and Madelyn Bowden; and son-in laws; Ronald McKinney and Michael Miller.

Survivors; four daughters; Alice Owens, Geneva, AL, Ann Miller, Samson, AL, Linda Owens (James T) Geneva, AL and Kim McKinney, Malvern, AL; nine grandchildren; Kevin (Anna) Owens, Pam (Guy) Bethea, Kellie (Wade) Fulford, Shane Miller, Jason Owens, Haley McKinney, Shane (Lisa) Owens, Michelle (Tim) Ward and Nikki Bowdoin; five sisters; Jean (Harvard) Phillips, Samson, AL, Dorothy (Jerry) Warren, Samson, AL, Sandra Gautney, Samson, AL, Evie Hanes (Jim King), Westville, FL and Shirley Preachers, Samson, AL; seventeen Great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a very special friend and co-worker Cindy Mitchum.
