Donnie Ray Dowling

Donnie Ray Dowling, known affectionately as Donnie, passed away on January 10, 2024, at the age of 56. A native of Williston, Florida, born on June 25, 1967, Donnie spent his final moments in Dothan, Alabama, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. His departure leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and a life well-lived.

Donnie was the cherished husband of Jenny Dowling, with whom he shared 19 years of unwavering companionship and love. His role as a father was one, he took immense pride in, guiding his son James and his wife Meri-Lynn, and his stepson Doug Walters with wisdom and humor. He also embraced the joys of fatherhood through his stepdaughter, Jessica Gaskill. The twinkle in his eye shone brightest around his grandson, Jameson Dowling, who was the apple of his eye.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Frank Dowling, and Freda Mae Dowling. Donnie's memory will be held in the hearts of his sister, Patricia Spence, and her husband Rex; his nephews, Tyler Spence and his wife Jessi, and Austin Caleb Spence; and his great-niece, Kaydence Spence, all of whom will miss his spirited presence dearly.

A proud graduate of Slocomb High School in 1986, Donnie carried the values of hard work and dedication throughout his life. He spent several years working diligently with Wheelwright Trucking before beginning work in the lawncare industry. His work ethic was only matched by his integrity and the respect he earned from colleagues and the community alike.

Donnie was a man who thrived in the great outdoors. He loved to fish, often spending quiet mornings by the water, waiting for the next big catch. His dogs, Buster and Bella, were his loyal companions on many outdoor adventures and in peaceful moments at home. Donnie's grandchild brought him immense joy to his life, and he cherished every moment spent with him.

Known for his funny and humorous nature, Donnie had a knack for storytelling, often regaling friends and family with tales that would leave everyone in stitches. His spirited personality was infectious, and his handy skills were always ready to help those in need. Donnie's presence was synonymous with laughter and an ever-present readiness to lend a hand or share a joke.

In every essence of his being, Donnie Ray Dowling was the epitome of someone who lived life fully and with great zest. He approached each day with a smile, a sense of humor, and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures of life. His legacy will continue to inspire and bring smiles to the faces of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

As we bid farewell to Donnie, we reflect on a life that was filled with joy, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to family and friends. While the sun has set on his journey here with us, the warmth of his spirit will continue to shine in our memories. Donnie Ray Dowling will be profoundly missed, but the love and happiness he brought to our lives will remain forever.
