DOROTHY  DANZEY  OATES


 


Dorothy Ann Danzey “Dot” Oates, a resident of Henry County, between Headland and Abbeville, died Saturday afternoon, July 14, 2018, at her home. She was 78.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 17, 2018, in the Fellowship Baptist Church with Reverend Tim McCraney officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the church sanctuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Robb Cleveland, 5651 State Highway 27, Newville, AL 36353. 
             Mrs. Oates was born and reared in the Danzey Community of Henry County where she lived most of her lifetime. She was a 1959 graduate of Newville High School. Mrs. Oates attended the Fellowship Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Cody Danzey, her mother, Minnie Lee Davis Danzey and two brothers, Bruce Danzey and Charles W. Danzey.


            Surviving relatives include her husband, Thomas Oran Oates; a daughter, Wendy Oates Gay (Walter), Dothan; three sons, Jeff Oates (Renee), Thomasville, GA; Mike Oates (Hermoin), Headland; and Troy Oates (Christy), Dothan; a sister, Jacqueline Kilpatrick, Headland; grandchildren, Colby Gay, Megan Freeman, Jessica Sapp, Kaitlin Poirier, Sidney Paul, Melissa Oates, Heather Oates, Brandon Oates, Shelby Oates, Mallory Oates, Cody Hughes, Jessica Hughes and David Randall; sixteen great-grandchildren.     


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Luke Sapp, Dr. Jonathan Poirier, Colby Gay, Brandon Oates, Eric Paul and Jai Freeman.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to the Encompass Health Hospice caregivers for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Oates during her illness.
