Douglas Joseph Jacobs, Sr., 70, of Dothan, Alabama passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012 at his residence with his wife Carol, son Little Doug and his wife Alicia, and his granddaughter Rachel by his side, following a brief battle with cancer. He lived a life full of happiness and filled with lots of family and friends.


Services will be 11 am Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing.


Doug is survived by his wife Carol Jacobs; his sons, Douglas (Alicia) J. Jacobs, III and Douglas (Anne) W. Johnson; step children, Sherry Dockery, Scott Norton, Tolana (Rickey) McBryar, and Terry Canal; grandchildren, Ashton Jacobs, Hunter Jacobs, and Rebecca Johnson; step grandchildren, Rachel (Ty) Tyson, Jessie (Michael) Smith, Kerri Mercer, Amanda (Michael) Brasseal, Joseph (Sable) Miller, and Devon (Ashley) McBryar; step great-grandchildren, Dawson Tyson, Scarlet Tyson, Jorgia Tyson, McKenzie Smith, Blake Smith, Myliegh Smith, Journie Mercer, Damion Mercer, Misty Mercer, Ayden Brasseal, Kyndal Brasseal, Austin Miller, Phoenix Miller, Cody Norton, Chase McBryar, and Dylan McBryar; his brother Edward (Karen) Jacobs; his sister Mary Anne (Steve) Cass; several nieces and nephews also survive. Doug was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Mary Jacobs, a daughter Missy Johnson, and a step daughter Susan Kirkland.


Doug will be missed by many here in the Wiregrass. He was loved by those that attended his AARP driver’s safety courses and all of those that Doug helped during his years of selling insurance as well as many other friends that have crossed his path through the years. Carol said “I finally met my soul mate only to have him taken away in such a short time. The time we spent together will always be the best years of my life.”


Serving as pallbearers will be Joseph Miller, Devon McBryar, Dylan McBryar, and Foyle Brunson.
