BIRMINGAM…Dr. Carl Willard Warden, Jr., a resident of Birmingham, Alabama, formerly of Dothan, died late Friday night, February 7, 2020, in a Birmingham Hospital. He was 77.


     Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 10, 2020, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Daniel Walker officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Monday in the mortuary chapel.


     Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1449 Medical Park Drive, Birmingham, AL 35213 or the American Cancer Society, Attn: Katie Rotton, 3054 McGehee Road, Montgomery, AL 36111.


     Dr. Warden was born in Louisville, Kentucky and reared in various locations while his father served in the United States Army. He was a graduate of Martinsville High School in Martinsville, Indiana. Dr. Warden enlisted in the United States Navy in 1961 and served during the Vietnam War. He received a Degree in Graduate of Theology from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. He also received a B.A. Degree and Masters Degrees in Pastoral Ministry and Theology from Bethany Divinity College. Dr. Warden also received a Doctorate in Theology and a PhD in Christian Counseling both from Bethany Divinity College and a PhD in School Administration from Louisiana Baptist University. He served many churches as Pastor through the years and retired from New Hope Free Will Baptist Church near Echo in November 2019. Dr. Warden was formerly employed by Bethany Divinity College as a College Administrator. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Willard Warden, Sr. and Mildred Lucille Cobble Warden, an infant brother, Richard Lee Warden, a son, Gregory Warden, and a grandson, Mikie Denton.


     Surviving relatives include his wife, Mary Boyette Warden; a daughter, Bretta Elmore (Roger), Wicksburg, AL; four sons, Carl Willard Warden, III (Giovanna), Jacksonville, FL; Bryan Warden, Troy, AL; Jake LeBon, Birmingham, AL; and Brandon Warden (Leslie), Dothan, AL; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
