OZARK…. Dr. Carolann B. Dennis, a resident of Ozark and Montgomery, died early Monday afternoon, November 5, 2018 in a Montgomery hospital. She was 68.


            Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. (E.T.) Thursday, November 8, 2018, in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, Alabama. Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ozark Animal Shelter, 1315 Parker Road, Ozark, AL 36360.


            Dr. Dennis, daughter of the late Max Bachl and Ann Bressi Bachl, was a native of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She lived in various locations in the United States and overseas, while her husband served in the United States Army. Dr. Dennis moved to Ozark in 1989. She is Assistant Professor of History at Alabama State University. She holds an MA and PhD from Auburn University, and a BA Albertus Magnus College. Her Research interests include Elites and People of Color in the Atlantic World, African American History, Women’s History, History of the Old South, and Material Culture. 


             Her presentations include: “Whispers of Freedom: Exploring Laura Beecher Comer’s Diary Through the Prism of the Comer Slaves’ Resistance” at the 98th Annual ASALH Convention of The Association for the Study of African American Life and History, October 2-6, 2013; and “An Invitation to Tea: Ritual and Identity in the British Atlantic World” at the annual conference of the Consortium on the Revolutionary Era at Charleston, South Carolina, March 2010. Her paper, "An Invitation to Tea," winner of the prestigious Colonial Dames Award was selected for publication and appeared in The Consortium on the Revolutionary Era 1750-1850, Selected Papers 2010, published in 2012. An active scholar, she is working currently on a book length project which explores the life of Laura Beecher Comer. Dr. Dennis teaches World History and U.S. History.  She was an avid supporter of Auburn University Football Program. Dr. Dennis was of the Catholic faith.


            Surviving relatives include her husband, Don Dennis, (CW5 United States Army, Retired), Ozark; her daughter, Adrienne Childers (Royce), Hamilton, AL; her son, Bill Dennis, Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, Christopher Dennis, Nicolas Dennis, and Chris Childers;  a brother, Greg Bachl, Allentown, PA; numerous cousins, aunts and uncles, including two uncles, Tony Bressi (Sharon) and Joey Bressi (Dottie); her loving fur babies, Rudy, Lena, and Buddy.
