WEBB, ALABAMA… Dr. Julie Wauthena Nall Knowles, a resident of Webb, Alabama, died Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at her home. She was 81.


            Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, May 20, 2023, in the Center Baptist Church Cemetery, near Webb, with Dr. Jerry Windsor officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


            Dr. Knowles was born and reared in the Greenfront Community of Houston County, daughter of the late Ealie Edward Nall and Margaret Creola Carter Nall. She was a graduate of the Houston County High School in Columbia. Dr. Knowles received a B.A. Degree in Music from Samford University and her Master’s Degree and Doctorate in English from Auburn University.  In earlier years, she taught English at Troy University and the Baptist College of Florida. Dr. Knowles and her late husband, Dr. William Durwood Knowles, formerly lived in Birmingham, AL, Louisville, KY, and Polston, GA before returning to Houston County, near Webb, in 1995. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dothan and was an accomplished piano player.


            Surviving relatives include a brother-in-law, Dr. William A. “Bill” Knowles (Diana), Graceville, FL; a sister-in-law, Linda Bridges Knowles Sims (James), Columbia, AL; several nieces and nephews and cousins.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to DaySpring Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Dr. Knowles during her illness.
