HEADLAND. . .E T Downs, a resident of Headland and Abbeville, died Friday morning, January 11, 2019, at his home. He was 93.

     There are no memorial or funeral services planned.

     Mr. Downs was born in Billingsley, Alabama, son of the late Erkin T. Downs and Beatrice Riley Downs. He moved to Henry County with his family as a child. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Downs lived in Selma, Alabama fifty years before returning to Abbeville in 2011. He was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Mr. Downs retired as an insurance agent and was formerly employed by National Security Insurance Company and Liberty National Life Insurance Company. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mamie Wyatt Downs, two sisters, Nonie Exum and Earnestine Downs and a brother, Sterling Downs.

     Surviving relatives include his wife, Maudie Pearl Cook Davis, Headland; two special nieces that E T and Mamie Downs raised, Martha W. Whitehead and husband, Jeff, Conyers, GA; and Judy Williamson and husband, Larry, Orrville, AL; a step-daughter, Terry Davis and husband, John Danford;  a step-son, Tim Davis (Denise), Abbeville; two brothers, Rufus Downs and wife, Sue, Abbeville; and George Downs  (Margaret), Corpus Christi, TX; several great-nieces and three special great-nephews.
