Eddie Lee “Sonny” Massey, III, a resident of Grimes, Alabama, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 24, 2022. He was 67 years old.


The family will receive friends at Sunset Funeral Home on Wednesday from 1-2 pm. Inurnment will follow at 2 pm on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 in Sunset Memorial Park.


Sonny was born on February 18, 1955 in Houston County, Alabama to the late Eddie and Hazel Pierce Massey, Jr. He attended Carrol High School and was employed as a long-haul truck driver his entire working career. Sonny loved NASCAR, Alabama Football, and fishing but most of all he treasured spending time with his children and his grandchildren.


Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Hazel Massey, his brother, Donnie Massey, by his sister, Lori Windsor, by his special friend and neighbor, Grady Bryant, and by his loving dog, Shorty.


Survivors include his daughter, Brandy (Chris) Hartzog; his son, Lee (Jessica) Massey; his step-daughter, Lindy (Brent) Bailey; his grandsons, Drew (Regan) Hartzog and Will Hartzog; his granddaughter, Anna Grace Massey; his sister, Debbie Gary; his brother-in-law, Tim Windsor; his three nieces; and by special friend and neighbor, Wanda Bryant.
