There will be a mass celebrating her life at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 7, 2022 at St. Columba Catholic Church, 2700 W Main St., Dothan, Alabama. Following the mass there will be a graveside service at Sunset Memorial Park, 1700 Barrington Rd., Midland City, AL.

Eileen Rose (Snyder) Zapel, 87, of Dothan, Alabama, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.


There will be a mass celebrating her life at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 7, 2022 at St. Columba Catholic Church, 2700 W Main St., Dothan, Alabama. Following the mass there will be a graveside service at Sunset Memorial Park, 1700 Barrington Rd., Midland City, AL.


Eileen was born in Hebron Township, Potter County, Pennsylvania. Her mother died in childbirth when she was only 2 years old and her father died when she was 4. Eileen and her siblings were separated and taken in/adopted by friends and family but remained close as the years passed.


Eileen married shortly after graduating high school and immediately began raising a family. She also worked many jobs during her lifetime, received an associate degree in accounting from the International Correspondence Schools and eventually became the owner of her own business. She moved to Florida in 1989 due to health reasons, where she continued to work to support herself, even into her 70s. In 2006, she moved to Dothan, Alabama.


Eileen was predeceased by one son, Len Zapel, and two grandsons, Nicholas Fritts and Matthew Zapel.


She is survived by two daughters, Michele (William)Fritts of Dothan and Laurie (Ron) McCullough of Enterprise and one son, Wesley (Michele) Zapel of Dothan, as well as 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
