Elsie “Irena” O’Neal, a longtime resident of Dothan, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Extendicare Health Center. She was 83.

Private graveside services will be held  11:00 a.m., Friday, April 2, 2021 at Memphis Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. John Bush officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 at the funeral home on Thursday.

Mrs. O’Neal was born November 17, 1937 in Runnelstown, Mississippi to Abram and Rena Brown and lived the early years of her life in Mississippi. She later was married to Rev. Ernest O’Neal and she, along with her husband, served several churches in Alabama and Ohio. In 1977, they moved to Dothan and she was a supportive pastor’s wife at Memphis Baptist Church for over 30 years prior to her husbands retirement.

She is predeceased by her parents, little sister, Norma Brown and two brothers, Glayson Brown and Thomas Brown.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Rev. Ernest O’Neal of Dothan; four children, Phyllis Hall of Dothan, Rena Johnson (Ken) of Destin, FL, Anthony O’Neal (Diane) of Dothan and K.O. O’Neal (Lisa) of Dothan; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a sister, Lillith Rogers of Lucedale, Mississippi.
