            Elsie Sparks Linke, 90, of Enterprise passed away Monday, April 9, 2012 in Enterprise.  She was born June 10, 1921 in Clay County, AL, the daughter of the late Thomas Grover and Sallie Nichols Sparks.  She was the youngest of four siblings.  Mrs. Linke’s husband, Arthur Linke, also preceded her in death.


            Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday, April 12 at Meadowlawn Cemetery with Dr. Michael Mynatt officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Enterprise directing.  The family will receive friends at Sorrells Funeral Home Thursday from 10 until 11 am.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the New Brockton Cemetery Fund, c/o First Baptist Church of New Brockton, P.O. Box 358, New Brockton, AL 36351 or to Hillcrest Baptist Church, Attn: Missions Fund, 500 Alberta St. Enterprise, AL 36330.


            Mrs. Linke is a graduate of New Brockton High School and Brennan Business College, and attended Troy University.  During her years of employment, she was a Secretary at the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Geneva and Union Springs; served as Librarian for the Human Resources Research Organization-Ft. Rucker; and as Office Manager for Dr. Fred George, Enterprise.


            Mrs. Linke enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, volunteer work, church activities, and spending time with her family and friends.  She loved the Lord and spent many hours helping with church activities.  She taught Sunday school, worked with Girls Auxiliary, WMU, VBS, and loved spending time with her church family at Hillcrest Baptist Church, Joy Sunday School Class and with the seniors group.  Mrs. Linke volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader and with Helpings Hands (a local church-based thrift store).  She also served on the board of the Coffee County Salvation Army.  She enjoyed traveling with Azalea City Travel Tours-Mobile, and with several local friends who shared her love of travel.


Elsie was a loving wife, mother and devoted grandmother to her grandson, Dan.


            She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas A. Linke (Tom) and June Williams Linke of Pensacola, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Jerry Jones of Enterprise; grandson, J. Daniel DeJarnette (Dan) and wife, Emily Robinson DeJarnette, of Monroe, LA; nephews, William E. Carmichael, Gilman, IL, Bobby Carmichael (Joyce), Anoka, MN, Timothy Sparks (Rosann), Green Cove Springs, FL; nieces, Julia C. Finley (Harvey), Wichita, KS, and Mary Ellen Sparks, Enterprise, AL.


            The family would like to express their appreciation and sincere thanks to her caregivers, nurses and CNA’s on hall 5, the staff of the Enterprise Health and Rehabilitation Center, as well as Dr. Rick Harrelson and Dr. Alan Young, whom have been so kind throughout her illness.  A special thank-you to devoted friends and caregivers, Mae Paul, Jennie Caudill, and Amanda Causey.
