SANTA ROSA BEACH, FLORIDA. . .Emily Carol Hudgens Vandemark, a resident of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, formerly of Abbeville, died Monday morning, August 21, 2023, in Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast Hospital in Miramar Beach, Florida. She was 83.


            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, August 25, 2023, in the Abbeville Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Greene officiating. Burial will follow in Abbeville Pioneer Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Friday in the Abbeville Methodist Church Family Life Center. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of funeral arrangements.


             In lieu flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Colorectal Alliance, 1025 Vermont Avenue N.W., Suite 1066, Washington, DC 20005.


            Emily Carol Vandemark was born and reared in Abbeville, daughter of the late Ansel Hill Hudgens and Emily Searcy Hudgens. She was a graduate of Abbeville High School. Emily Carol was a member of the Point Washington Methodist Church, Eden, Florida and a former member of the Abbeville Methodist Church. She served as pianist at Point Washington Methodist Church for many years. In earlier years, Emily Carol served as pianist for Abbeville Methodist Church. She taught piano for many years in her home. Emily Carol formerly lived in Auburn and Abbeville before moving to Inlet Beach in 1998 and Santa Rosa Beach in 2017. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Virginia Carol Whatley.


            Surviving relatives include her husband, John Charles “Jack” Vandemark, a daughter, Samantha Vandemark Shirley (Geoff), Eufaula, AL; three sons, William Wayne Whatley, Jr. (Joy), Montgomery, AL; Ansel Gideon Whatley (Barbara Albrecht Brown), Columbus, GA; and Clarence Hill Whatley; grandchildren, Sgt. U.S. Army, William Wayne Whatley, III, Mike Campbell (Jessica), Michelle Evans (Clint), Ansel Hill Whatley, Jane Elizabeth Tauber (Korry), Stephanie Whatley, Jacob Whatley, Lela Kenyon and Ava Kenyon; great-grandchildren, Maddilyn Claire Whatley, Michael Ryland Campbell, Taylor Rene Pritchett, Madison Rae Cole, Kristopher Richard Cole, Briana Rylee Cole, Otis Howard Snyder, Dylan Christian Evans and Jordan Cole Tauber.
