Emily Moates Sawyer, 63, of Montgomery, AL passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at her home on Thursday, November 24, 2011.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 28, 2011, at Searcy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lee Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Enterprise City Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing.


The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 10:00 AM until service time. At other times, the family will be at the home of Mrs. Jeanette Moates. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Family Guidance Center of Alabama, 2358 Fairlane Drive, Montgomery, AL 36116.


Mrs. Sawyer grew up in Enterprise, AL and graduated from Auburn University. She spent many years as an educator. She recently retired from her position as Director of the Family Guidance Center’s Success by 6 Program, a community-based partnership that prepares young children for school. She formerly served on the board of Montgomery Catholic High School.


Emily was preceded in death by her father, Martin Moates.


Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Sawyer, Montgomery, AL; daughter and son-in-law, Jessica Sawyer Wang (T. C.), Decatur, GA; son, Ethan Sawyer, Montgomery, AL; mother, Jeanette Moates, Enterprise, AL; sister and brother-in-law, Becky Cain (Dennis), Thomasville, GA; two brothers, Ben Moates, Enterprise, AL; David Moates, Enterprise, AL; aunt, Tommye Byrd, Enterprise, AL; brother-in-law, Tom Sawyer, Montgomery, AL; three nieces.
