EMMA JEAN GULLEDGE


HEADLAND…… Emma Jean Gulledge passed from this world on the evening of December 1, 2019, after a long illness; she was 80 years old.


            Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel, with Reverend Tom Chestnut officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, near Headland. The family will receive friends and extended family Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory.


Born on October 10, 1939, she lived to be a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and Granny. From a farming family, she was a resilient woman, a skilled gardener, and an accomplished cook. She will be best remembered digging turnips, frying cornbread, and maintaining her gardens. She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Gulledge and her son Jerry “Bubba” Gulledge.


She is survived by her children,  Marcia Ethridge, Shelia (Gary) Cornett, Debbie (Keith) Ethridge, and Anthony (Amy) Gulledge, all of Headland; her siblings Winford (Mildred), Inez (Earl) Evans, and David (Susan) Gulledge; her grandchildren Brooke (Dale) Ethridge, Lauren (Drew) Harpe, Hilliary (Damon) Lott, Matthew (Jessica) Welch, and Caleb Gulledge; her great-grandchildren Feather, Emma, Camille, Colton, Griffin, and Josie Rae.


Serving as active pallbearers will be Greg Gulledge, Mark Northington, Glenn Gulledge, Keith Gulledge, Mike Griggs, and Jeff Bostick. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Odom, Gary Gulledge, Roger Gulledge, Lafayette Pitts, Larry Pitts, Terry Pitts, and Tony Strickland.
