Ernest Clyde Whittaker, Jr., age 91, died , Friday, December 30, 2011 at Enterprise, Alabama.  He was born May 20, 1920 in Bristol, Virginia. 


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, January 1, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Enterprise with Rev. Rob West officiating.  Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing.  The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until service time.


 Clyde was the retired co-owner of Whittaker Warren Insurance Agency.  He was a World War II veteran and commanding officer retired of the 146th ENGR Company of the Alabama National Guard in Enterprise, Alabama.  He was a member of Enterprise First United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the Choir for many years. He served on the Enterprise City Board of Education; was past president of the Enterprise Rotary Club and a founding member of the Enterprise Country Club. 


Clyde is preceded in death by his parents, Nora and Ernest Whittaker, two brothers, Harrison Whittaker and Simmie Whittaker and one sister, Isabel Whittaker Evola. 


Clyde is survived by his wife of 68 years, Wynel Warren Whittaker, a daughter, Melinda Whittaker Farrell (Jim) of Anniston, Alabama, two sons, Richard W. Whittaker (Suzanna), Enterprise, Alabama and Burns Whittaker (Jo) of Denver, North Carolina; seven grandsons:  Warren  Whittaker (Melissa), Allen Whittaker (Rachel), Will Whittaker (Deanna), Arron Whittaker (Sarah), Daniel Whittaker, Whitt Steineker (Cameron) and Clay Steineker and one granddaughter, Julie Whittaker Henthorne (P.J.); eight great-grandchildren, two sisters, Marianna Gilmore of Bloomfield Hills,  Michigan and Nora Rockett of Bristol, Tennessee.


 The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.  Donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, Enterprise, Alabama or a charity of your choice.
