Ernest Gene Commander, Sr. of Westville, FL passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023. He was 79.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with Dr. Jerry B. Galloway and Rev. Daniel Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Tara Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Camp Wiregrass, P.O. Box 311072, Enterprise, AL 36311.  

Mr. Ernest was born in Marianna, FL on February 23, 1944 to the late Emogene and Willie Louise Harrell Commander. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp Reserve Division. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a life-long member of Sweet Gum Head Church of Christ congregation.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Commander Galloway.

Mr. Ernest is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Carolyn Commander of Westville, FL; daughter, Kimberly Stuck and husband Joe of DeFuniak Springs, FL; son, Gene Commander and wife Hope of Chipley, FL; two grandchildren, Jaicee Mayo and Riley Commander and one special great granddaughter, Felicity Quinn Jernigan; and a number of special nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Chance Pitts, Joe Stuck, Jonathan Sewell, Gary Tinsley, Jason Motley and Dallas Moring.
