Ethel Lois Catrett Butler Simpler, age 86, a resident of Hartford, passed away Monday, April 19, 2021, at her home.


Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Mount Enon Baptist Church with Reverend Don Tew officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Enon Baptist Church Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 pm at the church prior to the services.


Flowers are being accepted or contributions may be made to Mt. Enon Baptist Church “Building Fund”, 3167 Iris Rd., Dothan, Alabama 36301.


Mrs. Simpler was born January 2, 1935, in Brundidge, Alabama to Felton and Lillie Lawrence Catrett. She worked at Florida Microfilm for over 20 years and was a seamstress for many years. Mrs. Simpler was a lifelong member of Mount Enon Baptist Church.


She is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Bezzewell Butler and J. Quincey Simpler; three sisters, Betty Kootz, Judy Sher and Cathy Spann; four brothers, Jack Catrett, Henry Ford Catrett, Fox Catrett and Bobby Catrett.


Survivors include her sons, Doug Butler (Ann) of Hartford, Randy Butler of Columbia, Bronson Butler (Erica) of Dothan; stepchildren, Beverly Cook (John) of Houston, Texas, Phillip Simpler (Kay) of Las Vegas, NV and Roger Simpler (Judy) of Dothan; a sister, Shirley Jerrell (Mike) of Dothan; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
