Evelyn Lourraine McGriff

Date: 10 am on Saturday, March 13, 2021

Location: Sunset Memorial Park

On March 28, 1960 in Cottonwood, Alabama, our Heavenly Father blessed the late Johnnie Lee Williams and Christine Hogan, with a beautiful baby girl, Evelyn Lourraine Williams.

Graveside services will be held 10 am on Saturday, March 13, 2021 in Sunset Memorial Park.

Evelyn departed this earthly life to her heavenly home and reward the day of March 4, 2021. She was raised in Panama City and Ponce De Leon, Florida as a child. Evelyn graduated from Walton County High School, and furthered her education at Chipola College, graduated School of Phoenix, and graduated from Wallace Community College. Evelyn worked 16 plus years at Southeast Alabama Medical Center and 29 years working from home.

On October 2, 1991 Evelyn was joined in holy matrimony to Willie James McGriff, known as “WillieEvelyn”, in Kinsey, Alabama. Their marriage was a God given bond, and they were together as “one” for over 29 years. They had six beautiful children, Carlos Brown, late Willie McGriff Jr., Eletta L. McGriff, Ericah L. McGriff, James Willis McGriff, and Jeremiah William McGriff.

Evelyn had six brothers, Fredrick William, Gregory Kirkland, Joseph Ridgeway, Steve Ridgeway, Emanuel Ridgeway, and Robert (Brenda) Ridgeway. One special cousin who was like a sister, Ann Coachman. She had many uncles including, Larry Hogan and Deasly Brown, and one aunt, Brenda (Willie) Banfield.

Her sisters-in-law include Joyce (Otis) McGriff, Lillie McGriff, Ida Mae McGriff, Nicole McGriff, and Tina McGriff. Her mother-in-law, Minnie (James) McGriff. She also had one son-in-law, Caylib Owens.

Evelyn was from a very large family. She has a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, and tons of friends.

But most importantly Evelyn Lourraine McGriff knew the Lord, loved the Lord, and had a strong relationship with the Lord. She was always talking about his mercy and grace from early childhood until adulthood. Evelyn had a smile that would light up the room, full of love and a God given glow on her face. She was a wonderful, loving wife and a true “Gift from God”. She was a caring, giving, loving, and nurturing mother. A great friend to all that knew her. Evelyn will be truly missed by all that knew her. Her favorite book of the Bible to read was the book of Psalms.

Psalms 23: “The Lord is my shepard, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures, he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies; thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
