FRANCES  SMITH  BARNES


 


ABBEVILLE. . .Frances Smith Barnes, a resident of Abbeville, died Monday afternoon, July 9, 2012, at her home. She was 88.



 


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 11, 2012, in the Fellowship Baptist Church with Reverend Tim McCraney and Reverend Ray S. Reiley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.



 


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Robb Cleveland, 5651 State Highway 27, Newville, AL. 36353.



 


            Mrs. Barnes was born and reared in Greensboro, Alabama, daughter of the late William Zion Smith and Annie Robinson Smith. She lived in Abbeville all her adult lifetime. Mrs. Barnes was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Barnes, three grandchildren, Suzie Barnes, Abby Kirkland and Daniel Hutto, a great-granddaughter, Lillian Faith Barnes and three sisters, Annie Mae Smith, Lillie Turner and Gracie Clenney and a brother, Johnnie G. Smith.



 


            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Evelyn Hutto (Robert), Abbeville; Martha Goree (Jeff), Columbia; five sons, Charles (Snooks) Barnes (Shirley), Dothan; Bill Barnes (Betty), Abbeville; Gene Barnes (Charlotte), Capps community; Dr. Ronnie Joe Barnes (Donna), Fayetteville, GA and Larry Barnes, Abbeville; a brother, Leon Smith, Abbeville; fourteen grandchildren, Michael Barnes, Kim Barnes, Jennifer Henry, April Barnes, Jeremy Barnes, Rebekah Epps, Jeannie Barnes, Holly McGriff, Scott Barnes, Phillip Barnes, Rachael Barnes, Anna Barnes, Chad Goree and John Goree; ten great-grandchildren.



 


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Michael Barnes, Jeremy Barnes, Aaron McGriff, Tyler McGriff, Michael Epps, Merrell Henry, Scott Barnes and Phillip Barnes.
