HEADLAND. . .Francis Stuart Falkner, a resident of Headland, died early Tuesday morning, April 26, 2022, at his home. He was 80.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 29, 2022, in the Falkner Family Cemetery, (located behind his sister’s home, 280 Log Lane, Headland) with Reverend Joe Wyatt officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wiregrass Humane Society, P.O. Box 1045, Dothan, AL 36302.

Stuart Falkner was a lifelong resident of Headland, son of the late Francis Oron Falkner and Lillian Cunningham Falkner. He was a graduate of Headland High School and served his country in the Army National Guard in the Abbeville unit. Stuart was retired from the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant, near Columbia. In earlier years, he worked at Fort Rucker in aircraft maintenance. He also worked at Walden Motor Company and was self-employed as the co-owner and operator of Falkner Brothers Ford in Headland. Stuart was preceded in death by an infant son and an infant daughter, his grandparents, Luther and Sarah Ethel Cunningham and James Garfield and Margaret Cornelia Falkner.

Stuart was brilliant and could fix anything. He once found a dilapidated airplane that had been left in a field for ten years, and totally overhauled it and flew it out of the field himself to the local airport. He also, with a good friend, repaired the clock on the front of Headland High School. The clock had not worked in decades. He enjoyed bringing back-to-life old cars, trucks, tractors, clocks, etc. Stuart also had a soft spot in his heart for children and his feline friends.

Surviving relatives include a son, Merritt Falkner, Headland; two daughters, Kathleen Madison, Venice, FL; and Roxanna Selkirk Dixon, Thousand Oaks, CA;  a sister, Cornelia King (Jimmy), and a brother, Morris Falkner (Kathy), all of Headland; a special step-daughter, Nicole Riley Malone, grandchildren, Merritt Falkner, Jr., Madison Meredith Falkner, Mason Falkner and Catherine Selkirk; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews .
