            Gaines Aubrey Owens, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012 in Enterprise.  He was 80.

            Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at New Home Baptist Church in Enterprise with Rev. Cliff Quincey officiating.  Burial with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 12 noon until service time.  Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to New Home Baptist Church, 2734 County Road 617, Enterprise, Al 36330, or to Dayspring Hospice, LLC, P.O. Box 311246, Enterprise, AL 36331.

            Mr. Owens was born May 21, 1932 in Moundville, AL to the late Lamar Woodfin and Ida McCray Owens.  He served in the United States Air Force from May 1950 until his retirement as a Master Sergeant E7 in July 1970.  He was also a retired real estate broker in Tarpon Springs, FL, and retired lay leader and local pastor (UMC).  He was a faithful member of New Home Baptist Church.

            Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Marshall Owens, Enterprise; 3 daughters: Cynthia Karaphillis (John) from Gainesville, FL, Susan Taylor (Butch), Enterprise, Brenda Szenay (Craig), Tampa, FL; 2 sons: Raymond Owens (Sabrina), Dalton, GA, Richard Owens (Kim), Smiths Station, AL; 3 brothers: Winston Owens (Carolyn), Tuscaloosa, AL, Webster Owens (Betty), Abita Springs, LA, Paul Owens (Edna), Newbern, AL; 13 grandchildren: Jeremy Owens, Brandon Owens, Brittani Fullerton, Ryan Taylor, Daniel Taylor, Brian Szenay, Jarred Owens, Ashley Szenay, Kristin Martin, Olivia Owens, Hannah Owens, Aubrey Taylor, Noah Owens; 6 great-grandchildren: Oliver Owens, Cade Dixon, Silas Owens, Lilly Taylor, Adalynn Taylor, Presley Fullerton; and several nieces and nephews.
