Gena Joyce Wood Owens of Samson, AL passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. She was 53. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Geneva with Rev. Steve Skidmore, officiating.  A private committal service will follow with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva, directing. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m.

 

Mrs. Owens was born in Meridian, MS on December 17, 1965.  She was a member of the Geneva First Baptist Church.  She was a graduate of Geneva High School, Class of 1984, and received a B.S. in Accounting and M.S. in Elementary Education from Troy University – Dothan.  Mrs. Owens taught at Mulkey Elementary School for twenty-five years.  She loved teaching her students and deeply cherished being with her family.  Gardening and fishing were two of Gena’s favorite pastimes.  

 

She is survived by her husband, Scott H. Owens; son, Mason Holley (Courtney); daughter, Lana Holley; parents, Gene and Joyce Hatcher Wood; step-daughter, Bailey Mock (Dylan); four grandchildren, Autumn Holley, Owen and Mason Mock, and Raylee Holley who will be born in September; sister, Shanon Brasher (Wayne) and brother, Brad Wood (Danncey).
