Mr. George Allen Godwin, age 79, a resident of Dothan, died Thursday October 18, 2018 at his residence after an extended illness.

Mr. George Allen Godwin, age 79, a resident of Dothan, died Thursday October 18, 2018 at his residence after an extended illness.Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday October 20, 2018 at Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Robert Hamilton and Pastor Troy West officiating.  Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery (Hwy. 431 N.) with Kendall Glover directing.

The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Saturday  prior to services at Glover Funeral Home Chapel.  Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.

Mr. Godwin was born on September 28, 1939 in Midland City, the son of Dewey Cecil Godwin and Georgia Lucille Powell Godwin.  He served in the U.S. Army for two years stationed in Germany. Mr. Godwin was retired as a salesman in the automotive and electrical business retiring after 38 years. He was employed with Dixie Auto Electric, which later became Tristate Diesel.

Mr. Godwin was of the Assembly of God faith. He taught Sunday School and served as a youth pastor at Mt. Zion Assembly of God and Madrid Assembly of God Churches.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Vickie Roney.

Survivors include wife of 44 years, Carolyn Godwin, Dothan; daughter, Georgia Hazel and her husband, Michael, Montgomery; 2 sons, Damon Godwin and his wife, MeLena,  Dothan,  Jeff Abney, Dothan; brother, Jim Godwin and his wife, Shirley, Cottonwood; sister, Frances Lindsey, Dothan; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be: Jeff Abney, Damon Godwin, Nathan Roney, Chris Wood, Scott Lindsey, Benny Lindsey, Allena Godwin and Mike Hazel.
