George F. Bowdoin, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at his residence. He was 70 years old.


A celebration of his life followed by military honors will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Lee officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1-2 pm.


Mr. Bowdoin was born on June 11, 1948 in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and lived the early years of his life in Enterprise, AL. He graduated from Enterprise High School in 1966, graduated from Marion Military Institute in 1968. He joined the Alabama Army National Guard where he served for 29 years and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During his military services, he served as a Tac Officer at the Alabama Military Academy. Mr. Bowdoin was a 1972 graduate of Auburn University where he received a degree in Building Science. He moved to Dothan in 1972 where he married the love of his life, Linda McGowan. It was also here that they founded, and he was president of Bowdoin Construction. Mr. Bowdoin was a loving and caring family man, his passion was his family, he especially enjoyed teaching and being a leader. He coached t-ball and baseball and was the assistant coach of the Northview High School baseball team in 1999. Mr. Bowdoin was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Howie Bowdoin.


Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Linda Bowdoin; his son, Charles Bowdoin; his daughters, Lori Bowdoin (Jason) Brown and Lana Bowdoin (Matt) Stephenson; his 8 grandchildren, William McKnight, Laci McKnight, Ella Kate McKnight, Peyton Brown, Maddox Brown, Evie Stephenson, Turner Stephenson, and Connor Stephenson; his 2 sisters, Betty (Lee) Gross and Judy (Tim) Tucker; and several nieces and nephews.
