 George Raymond Merritt, 74, a resident of Ashford, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2022, at his residence. He was born on November 16,1947, in Dothan to the late Charles Ray Merritt and Martha Annette (Glass) Merritt.



Funeral Services will be 11AM, Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Watermark Church in Ashford, burial to follow in Ashford City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until service time at the church.



Raymond was a lifelong resident of Ashford, the town he loved. As a young man Raymond played football and baseball and later in life loved to coach and volunteer with Ashford Athletics. He was member of Watermark Church where he served faithfully as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, RA leader, greeter, choir member, and through mission’s work. He believed that serving others was the most true way to show Christ’s love and he completed countless trips across the country with the Alabama Baptist Disaster Relief teams. He was devoted to his family.



In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mabel (Sanders) Merritt.



Survivors include his wife, Carol (Cherry) Merritt, his children, George (Caroline) Merritt and their children, Gracie and Emma Merritt, and Summers (Wesley) Bell and their children, Matheson and Merritt Bell,  brothers, Charles (Libby) Merritt, Philip (Deloris) Merritt, and Wayne Merritt, step-children, Chris (Alexa) Aman, their children, Harper and Leni Aman, Amanda (Chad) Searcy, and their children, Grayson, Landon, and Hudson Searcy,  his aunt, Eugenia Towns,  along with several nephews, nieces, and loving family members.



In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Watermark Church Missions or Alabama Baptist Disaster Relief. 



 



Pallbearers will be Jim McInnish, Jimmy Paramore, Larry Bonds, Kevin Kelly, Aaron Cordle, and Taylor Moorer.
