HEADLAND. . .Gerald Carlos Woodham, Sr., a resident of Headland, formerly of Eufaula, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, early Saturday morning, August 19, 2023, after a long illness. He was 80.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 20, 2023, in the Worship Center of the First Baptist Church of Headland with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, near Eufaula. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. Sunday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church “Music Ministry Fund” or the “Bridge to Tomorrow” Building Fund, 301 East Church Street, Headland, AL 36345.


            Mr. Woodham was born in Dothan and grew up in Texasville in Barbour County. He was the son of the late Leslie Dowling Woodham, Sr. and Shellie Mae Warr Woodham. Mr. Woodham was a graduate of Louisville High School. He lived most of his life in Eufaula before moving to Headland in 2013. He was a strong Christian witness in faithfulness and service to the Lord at First Baptist Church of Eufaula and First Baptist Church of Headland. Mr. Woodham leaves a strong example of a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather “Papa”, and encourager in the faith of Jesus to all! He always ended telephone calls to Tucker, Preston and Alexandra with these encouraging words: I love you and God loves you. Mr. Woodham retired from the State of Alabama Department of Transportation in Eufaula after over thirty years service. An avid gardener, he loved to plant flowers and vegetable gardens and shared his vegetables with his friends. Mr. Woodham is preceded in death by three brothers, Leslie Dowling Woodham, Jr., Bobby Woodham and Colon Dean Woodham.


            Surviving relatives include his wife of sixty-one years, Peggy Mathis Woodham; two sons, Gerald C. “Jerry” Woodham (June), Opelika, AL; and Phillip Woodham, Headland; “Papa” to grandchildren, Tucker Woodham, Preston Woodham and Alexandra Woodham; three sisters, Elaine McClenney, Headland; Rena Henson, Birmingham; and Mary Payne (Wendell), Skipperville, AL; numerous nieces and nephews.
