COLUMBIA. . . Geraldine May 'Gerry' Williams, a resident of Columbia, died Wednesday afternoon, January 19, 2022, in a Dothan hospital. She was 95.


Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 23, 2022, in the Columbia City Cemetery with Reverend Michael Cox and Pastor T. Michael Smith officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside services. Social distancing guidelines and masks will be observed. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Columbia United Methodist Church, P.O Box 188, Columbia, AL 36319.



Mrs. Williams was born October 16, 1926, in Fitzpatrick, Alabama and was raised in Webb, as the daughter of the late William Edward “Bill” May and Jimmie Ruth May. She was a 1945 graduate of  Houston County High School in Columbia and attended the University of Montevallo and Troy University. In her earlier years, after World War II, she taught at Webb Jr. High School and Houston County High School in Columbia.



She married S. A. Williams on May 17, 1947,  and they worked together to build the S. A. Williams Farm. Over the years, the farm won multiple conservation and outstanding corn grower awards.  The farm was recognized as a Young Farm Family of the Year for Alabama, was awarded the Henry County Farm Family of the year in 1993, and was recognized as a Century and Heritage Farm in 2009.Mrs. Williams was a member of the Columbia United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the choir and on many church committees. She was an active participant at the Columbia Senior Center where she enjoyed spending time with friends both old and new.  Mrs. Williams was also a founding member of the Henry County Home Demonstration Club and was a life-long food preservationist.                                                                                                                She was preceded in death by her husband, S. A. Williams and two brothers, Billy May and Bobby May.



Surviving relatives include a daughter, Pam Williams Will (Glenn), two sons, Sammy Williams (Joan), and Andy Williams (Karen), all of Columbia; seven grandchildren, Sam Williams (Heather) of Dothan,  Katie Williams Smith (Brandon) of Auburn, Adam Williams of Auburn, Jason Williams of Columbia, Kevin Williams of Columbia, Patrick Will (Sara) of Cordele, GA, and Joshua Will (Gabby Smith) of Columbia; two great-grandchildren, Samuel Smith Williams and Annaleigh Ruth Williams, both of Dothan; and several dear nieces and nephews.



The family would like to express their appreciation to Miss Gerry’s sister in Christ and caregiver, Beverly Cox, for the loving care, kindness and companionship she provided in recent years.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be her grandchildren
