God called our Mother, Gladys Virginia Keene Ard of Gaskin, Florida home to Heaven where she is rejoicing and so are we.

Gladys was born November 26, 1928 in the New Hope/Mt. Ida Community of Holmes County. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Kenith Keene and Savannah Elizabeth Scott. She married Wilmer Ard January 19, 1947. They were married for 61 years.

Gladys was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and a friend to everyone. She was a founding member of Flat Creek Assembly of God Church. She was a lady who lived for God and was faithful to her family, her church and most of all to her God. She always looked for the good in people and would only get upset when someone hurt her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren or great-great grandchild. She relied heavily on prayer and prayed for everyone. She enjoyed the family feeding frenzies, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. She grew a garden and loved flowers. She was known as “the lady just over the Florida line on the right with all the flowers in bloom”. She enjoyed embroidering and embroidered table scarves and gave them to family and friends as gifts. In July 1958 she started working for Franklin Ferguson Sewing Factory making buttons holes on men’s shirts until she retired in December 1986.

Gladys was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Wesley Wilmer Ard in June 2008; son, Carlton Eugene Ard in May 1960; grandsons, Robert Carlton Ard and Andy Lamar Davis; sisters and brother-in-law, Clara Lou Keene, Susan Norton (Lonzo), Ethel Collins (Robert) Ola Albritton (“Dub”), Edyce Reynolds, Mary Brady Hewett (Hubert Brady and Troy Hewett); brothers and sister-in-law, Joe Keene (Sara), Johnnie Keene (Lois), Clyde Keene (Mettie), and Delma Keene (Ouida).

She is survived by her four daughters, Merle Ard (Ed Brown), Wavene Poole (Eanix), Florance Waters (Charlie), and Doria Moody (Clyde); three sons, Rev. Wesley Ard (Lois), Rev. Wendell Ard (Rachel), Rev. Lorry Ard (Dana); 11 grandchildren, William Hardin, John David, Seth, Matthew, Mark, Trent, Trey, Dylan, and Savannah Ard, Nicholas Davis, and Reid Moody; 38 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and one due in September ; numerous nieces, nephews, very special friend, Nora Blair, other extended family, and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Flat Creek Assembly of God Church Cemetery fund, c/o Maggie Nowling, 412 County Road 72, Chancellor, AL 36316.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2020 at Flat Creek Assembly of God Church with Rev. Lorry Ard, Rev. Wesley Ard and Rev. Wendell Ard officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday beginning at 12:00 p.m.
