Gladys Irene McCord Messer, age 91, a resident of Dothan, passed away on February 20, 2018, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm on Friday, February 23, 2018, at Hodgesville Baptist Church with Dr. Ricky Plummer officiating.  Burial will follow at Hodgesville Baptist Church Cemetery with Kendall Glover directing.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Alacare Hospice, 3379 West Main Street, Dothan, AL, 36305.

The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 pm until 1:45 pm Friday prior to the services at Hodgesville Baptist Church.

Mrs. Messer was born on February 23, 1926 in Houston County to Clarence and Julia Smith McCord, and lived all of her life here.  She was employed as a seamstress at Warner’s for 20 years and Jack’s Cover Shop for 8 years.  Mrs. Messer attended Cottonwood High School and was a member of Hodgesville Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Cecil Monroe Clements and Otis Messer; a granddaughter Kim Ball; and a brother Lloyd McCord.

Survivors include her son Larry Cecil Clements (Kathy) of Dothan; 1 grandchild Leah Willis (Ross) of Cullman; 3 great-grandchildren Austin Ball of Panama City, FL, Lori Bailey of Dothan and David Bailey of Dothan; 5 sisters Jeanett Thorn (Roland) of Dothan, Melvylen Head of Dothan, Bobbie Womble of Oviedo, FL, Danny Sue Colley (Ronald) of Spring, TX, and Kaye Mareno (Ray) of Ft. Worth, TX; and a sister-in-law Jean McCord of Conroe, TX.; several nieces & nephews.

Pallbearers will be:  Don Clements, Eddy Hardy, Tony Clements, Roger Thompson, Jay Thompson, Robby Thompson and Chase Thompson.
