Glenn Alan Davis, 38, of Enterprise, AL passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at UAB in Birmingham, AL. He was born September 24, 1981 in Atlanta, GA. Son of the late Douglas K. Davis and Kong Sun Ma, Glenn made a spectacular and unexpected early arrival, but after a three month stay in the neonatal unit came home to his adoring family. Though he weighed a mere four pounds, he was already proving himself to be a tenacious survivor and fighter.
Glenn is survived by his beloved life-partner Tracy Buchanan, mother Kong Sun Ma, grandmother Jung Gwi Yeon, sisters Connie and Julie Hong, brother Jared English, aunts Pok Holbrook and Melinda Davis Keisling and a host of much loved cousins. There are many other family members and close friends that held Glenn dear to their hearts, as well.
Education being an important family priority, Glenn graduated from Elba High School in the Class of 1999, then earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology, Counseling, and Foundations of Education and then capped off his education with an MS in Counseling and Psychology at Troy University. He most recently worked as a Therapist at a residential treatment facility for youth suffering from serious behavioral and emotional issues. This is an area in which Glenn truly thrived; he was known to be encouraging and had a way of helping the kids that struggled the most. He was patient, down to earth, and made an impact in their lives. Glenn had such a calming presence among the kids that he never had to resort to having one removed for behavioral issues. They respected him. Glenn also used his experience as an Eagle Scout to request the construction of a ropes course so that he could tie in team building and trust to the help the teens overcome fears and teach valuable life-lessons. Glenn was amazing at this task and left a lasting legacy that will hopefully continue to touch the lives of those that he counseled.
From the time that Glenn was old enough to travel his dad took him on every adventure in which a boy could wish to participate. His life truly unfolded like a storybook of childhood journeys that often took him around the world to places like Korea, Hawaii, the United Arab Emirates, not to mention the many places visited in the U.S. The Doug and Glenn Team never missed an opportunity to camp, hike, skydive, fly, or just enjoy being outside in nature. As a highly decorated Eagle Scout he earned several honors in addition to the required merit badges; Glenn and his dad started working toward that goal early in his life through many hours of outdoor pursuits and volunteer service work together. Glenn also was awarded the Lifesaving/Meritorious Action award for heroism from the Boy Scouts of America for the saving of lives during the 1998 Elba flood.
Glenn and Tracy enjoyed many years together just enjoying the simplest things in life-- listening to music, walking along the beach, holding hands, and just being together as a loving team. He enjoyed games on Xbox 1 and through this developed friendships from all over the world and even counseled people as a result of gaming. Glenn’s underling passion was always to help people. Even if he never met them face-to-face, he still found a way to connect if there was a need.
Among his friends, Glenn is known for his love of music, watching Alabama football, grilling, playing games, going to the beach, and most of all, his contagious laugh that cheered everyone around him.
Never greedy, Glenn most valued the simple things that life offers: quality time with his love, Tracy; the respect of his beloved dad; the love of his family and friends, and to be known as a man of integrity. He wanted to please others. He wanted to help others. Glenn wanted to make a difference, if not in the entire world then in the simple way of helping people on a one-on- one basis. During his final days, Tracy often played for him one of his favorite songs, “Simple Man” by Shinedown. The lyrics touched Glenn and he would want others to take a moment to either read them or listen to the song, take in the meaning, and perhaps learn as he did,
"And be a simple kind of man
Be something you'll love and understand Baby be a simple, kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me son, if you can"
Live your life with integrity, love your family, take a walk on the beach with those that you love. Enjoy the simple things in life. This is what Glenn would wish for you.
Services will be at Searcy Funeral Home & Crematory, 1301 Neal Metcalf Road, Hwy. 167 North, Enterprise, AL, Wednesday, September 23, 2020 with visitation at 9:00 a.m. and Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m. In respect of conditions related to the current COVID-19 crisis, please plan to wear a mask and practice appropriate social distancing.
