Grover Clyde (Sonny) Fleming died peacefully in his home in Sebring, Florida, on February 2, 2022. Mr. Fleming, who was 90 years old, is preceded in death by his mother, Erie Clyde Hutchison, his father Grover Cleveland Fleming, his sister Maxine Fleming Sawyer, and his brother in law Felix Sawyer, all of Enterprise, Alabama. He leaves behind his beloved wife and companion of 65 years, Mary Pauline (Polly) Fleming, daughter Sandra Fleming Bone of Sebring, Florida and son Russell Clyde Fleming of Rome, Georgia, as well as 7 grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren.

Clyde was born on August 28, 1931 in Enterprise and graduated from Enterprise High School in 1949.  After serving in the Korean War, he attended Troy University, where he met Polly, from Dixonville, Florida, and after transferring to Auburn University, received a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.  They married in 1957, and upon graduation, moved to Huntsville, Alabama.

In Huntsville Clyde worked for several architectural firms, including Brown Engineering, and then started his own firm, Architect Associates, which provided designs and development for residential, commercial, and municipal buildings, as well as low income housing in Huntsville, Madison County, and other areas of North Alabama.

After retiring in 1993, Clyde and Polly moved to Jasper, Georgia to be close to their son, Russell, and his family, and to enjoy the Appalachian Mountains of north Georgia and beyond. They shared a lifelong passion for traveling and saw much of the US and Canada, as well as the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. They also enjoyed several missionary opportunities in Alaska, New Mexico, and upstate New York. Clyde was always a loyal Auburn fan and held season tickets to the Auburn football games for many years. Clyde and Polly resided for a number of years in Enterprise, where they attended First Presbyterian Church, PCA and then Rome, where they attended Seven Hills Fellowship, PCA before permanently moving to Sebring in 2019 where their daughter Sandra and her family live. Clyde and Polly loved the Lord and His church and are currently members of Covenant Presbyterian Church, PCA, in Sebring.

Services will be in Enterprise at Searcy Funeral Home on Thursday, February 10th, with visitation at 1:00 pm and the Memorial Service at 2:00 pm, with longtime friends Gary White and Tom Desert officiating, followed by interment at Enterprise City Cemetery alongside his beloved parents.
