Gwendolyn K. Baker passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Southeast Health in Dothan, Alabama.

Gwen was born August 26, 1958, in Clay County, GA to Lawrence and Kanell Kincey. Gwen graduated from Abbeville High School. She was an amazing wife, mom and homemaker for many years. Gwen devoted most of the later part of her life just as she did the early portion…..serving others. She was a loving caretaker for so many who were in need. She was introduced to God at an early age. The love she had for God emanated at Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church. This was her church home for many years. Gwen was passionate about God and used herself as a vessel, to spread his word throughout this world. She was someone that always had a smile on her face, never met a stranger and would give the clothes off her back to help anyone. If you are someone who lives in Abbeville or maybe even passing through, then there surely has been a time where you passed her home, and her front porch and deck were full of people. She had an open-door policy and never turned anyone away who needed a meal, a place to stay or someone to talk to. She didn’t just spread the word…SHE LIVED IT! If you were ever Blessed enough to encounter her, then you left with a smile, scripture, joke, some good food or all of these things.

There aren’t many people in this world who can say they are adored by both young and old. Gwen was one of those people that everybody loved. She left a footprint in the hearts of so many and we know her legacy will live on through her kids and grandkids. During some of her final moments, she asked for scriptures to be read and stated, “I’ve got to tell the world about Jesus”. It is now time for her to take her rest as one of God’s good and faithful servants.

Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Baker; parents, Lawrence and Kanell Kincey; two brothers, Earl Dozier and Lawrence Hugh Kincey Jr.; and sister, Sybil Kincey.

She leaves to cherish her memories: three children, Cedrick Baker (Michelle), Latronia Baker (Fred) and Tony Baker, all of Abbeville, Alabama; nine grandkids who were the true apples of her eyes, Alexis Williams, Antonio Truitt, Landan Jackson, Zayne Peterman, Jae ’don and Gavin Baker and Trent and Tyren Lingo, all of Abbeville, AL and Aniyah Baker of Charlotte, North Carolina; her brother, Jim Bob  Culver (Regina) of Redford MI; her aunts Everdean Salter, Roberta Walker and Virginia Walker of Abbeville, AL, her nephews and nieces: Reginald Kincey (Christie) of Clopton AL, LaGwendolyn Davison (Marcus) of Atlanta, GA, April Kincey of Port Charlotte, FL, Brandi Copeland (Angelo) of Dothan, AL, Brian Kincey of Abbeville, AL and Thomas Kincey (Saquetta) of Opelika, AL. Gwen shared a very special bond with her sister- in- law and niece, Mae Baker Smith and Freda Smith (Nathaniel) Jenkins. She leaves to cherish a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Although Gwen has transitioned her legacy will remain.  She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, amazing sister, irreplaceable aunt and one who never turned a stranger away. Her loving nature, joking disposition and Christ-like love were on display to the very end. Gwendolyn K Baker was indeed an angel on earth, who will be missed tremendously.
