Harlon Joe Butler, 87, a resident of Dothan, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Westside Terrace.


Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2024 at Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ernie Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. on Friday prior to service time.


Mr. Butler was a member of Cloverdale United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cloverdale United Methodist Church, 102 Rollins Avenue, Dothan, AL, 36301.


Mr. Butler was born December 18, 1936 in Houston County to Hubert Beasley and Robbie Jewell McNeil Butler and lived most of his life in Houston County. He served in the Alabama National Guard for six years and was activated twice during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  He was a salesman in the food and janitorial/paper supply industry for 40 years, including W. J. Powell Produce, Phillips Brokerage Company and Houston Paper Company.  Prior to retirement, Mr. Butler was an equal partner with American Janitorial and Paper Supply of Dothan.


He is predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Rev. Willie Butler and Lonnie Butler.


Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Carolyn Harrell of Dothan; two daughters, Cathy Sizemore (Tony) of Dothan, Karen Mathews (Eddie) of Dothan; a son, Stephen Butler (Monique) of Rockport, Texas; two sisters, Edna Weeks of Geneva County and Barbara Turvin of Dothan; seven grandchildren, Nikki Caldwell (Jon) of Dothan, Jeremy Sizemore (Crystal) of
Enterprise,  Alisha Butler and Amber Butler, both of Baton Rouge, LA, Christian Morphet of Ponchatoula, LA, Joshua Morphet of Dallas, Texas and Micah Morphet of Denham Springs, LA and eight great-grandchildren.


Active pallbearers will be: Tim Wright, Eddie Mathews, Tracy Lawrence, John Ferguson, Scott Turvin and Tony Turvin.


Honorary pallbearers will be: Jerry Coskrey, Kenneth Everett, Kevin Butler and Allan Butler.


The family would like to extend their appreciation to Southern Care Hospice, especially Joann Ellington, Cassidy Vanhoose and Rosa Brackin. A special thank you also to caregiver, Laura Williams and Dr. Calvin Reid and his nursing staff for the compassionate care given to their loved one.
