Harrell Hugo McDaniel of Enterprise passed away Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the age of 96.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, February 25th at Searcy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Willie B. Parker and Rev. Sonny Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 P.M. until service time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 302 Main Street, Enterprise, AL 36330 or the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, 1302 Ross Clark Circle, Dothan, AL 36301.

Mr. McDaniel was born December 1, 1915 in Koenton, AL. He was ordained as a deacon at Silas Baptist Church in Silas, AL. He graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) in 1940 and began his teaching career at Woodlawn High School in Birmingham before serving in the United States Army Air Corps in World War II. Upon being discharged from the Army in 1945, he continued working as an education specialist with the Department of Defense, retiring from Ft. Rucker, AL in 1982. In retirement, he enjoyed working his vegetable garden, raising blueberries, building bluebird boxes, and watching Auburn football games. He served several years as chaplain for the Bullard Chapter of the Masons and received his fifty year Masonic pin. He loved and provided for his family, setting examples of ethics, honesty, and hard work.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Meredith McManus McDaniel, a sister, Verma Wimberley, and a brother, Jarrell McDaniel.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Julia Thomas (Jack) Niceville, FL; Carroll Drennan (Luther) Huntsville, AL; Brenda Parker (Ron) Hoover, AL; son, Jimmy McDaniel (Monica) Belvidere, IL; four grandchildren, Jennifer Drennan, Susan Drennan, Amy Goodman and Adam Thomas, and several nieces and nephews.

The family especially thanks Dr. Gary Allen, the Enterprise Senior Center, Gentiva Hospice, Enterprise Health and Rehab, 3rd floor staff at Medical Center Enterprise, and special caregivers.
