Harry Gene Clark, a resident of Dothan, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023 at his residence. He was 93.

Graveside funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Madrid Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Travis Free officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday prior to service time. Flowers are being accepted.

Mr. Clark was born September 28, 1929 in Canton, Ohio to Quincy Hoss and Florine Skipper Clark. At the age of 2, he moved to the Wiregrass Area and graduated from Rehobeth High School. Following graduation, he attended Troy State University where he excelled in basketball and baseball. He was then drafted into the Chicago Cubs where he played professional baseball. However, it was cut short when he was called to serve his country in the U. S. Army where he spent 4 years. Mr. Clark established the first business on 231 South, Gene Clark’s Grocery which he operated for many years. He also owned a seafood business. He was a founding member of Madrid Baptist Church where he served in many capacities.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a daughter, Suzette Clark Kirkland, a son, Mike Clark, two brothers, Bob Clark and Jack Clark and a sister, Joyce Blalock.   

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Henson Clark of Cottonwood; two sons, Frankie Clark (Denise) of Abbeville and Robin Clark of Mobile; three grandchildren Ashley Cook (Matt), Anthony Clark (Ashton) and Alex Clark (Meagan); four great-grandchildren, Lane Cook, Brody Cook, Hudson Clark and Ada Kate Clark.
