HEADLAND…Helen Farmer Smith, a resident of Headland, died Thursday morning, August 16, 2018, at her home. She was 91.


  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 18, 2018, in the Worship Center of the First Baptist Church of Headland with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of the arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.


  Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Headland “Bridge to Tomorrow” Building Fund, 301 E. Church St., Headland, AL 36345.


  Mrs. Smith was born and reared near Headland, daughter of the late Henry Sinous Farmer and Mable Jane Register Farmer. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Headland. In earlier years, she was active in her Sunday School Class and the Prime Time Singers Choir. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, James Tullis Smith; her daughter, Sylvia Ann Smith; her sister, Marjorie Newton; two brothers, Garvous Farmer and Loma Farmer; and her grandson-in-law, Adam Weldon.


  Surviving relatives include three daughters, Wanda Knowles (Jerry), Headland; Nancy Nelson, Dothan; and Jerry Todd, Tallahassee, FL; four grandchildren, Lesa Harris (Andy), Allison Bloom (Steve), James Nelson (Natalie) and Jason Nelson (Carla); eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one brother, Dan Farmer (Patsy), Eufaula.


  Serving as active pallbearers will be James Nelson, Jason Nelson, Andy Harris, Steve Bloom, Seth Harris, Casey Weldon, Addison Weldon, Tullis Nelson, Seaton Bloom and Sheldon Bloom.


  The family would like to express their appreciation to caregivers, Ola Mae Reeves, Sarah Thomas, Patricia Jones, Hattie Jones, Carolyn Gilmore, Angela Gilmore and Covenant Care for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Smith and her family.
